About the Cultural Gathering of Nations

Where tradition meets celebration in Northern BC's largest cultural festival.

Where It Started

The Cultural Gathering of Nations was born from a shared vision held by West Moberly First Nations, Prophet River First Nation, and Halfway River First Nation. These three communities came together to create something the region had never seen: a large-scale, multi-nation cultural gathering right in Northern BC.

The inaugural gathering took place in 2025 at the Ovintiv Events Centre in Dawson Creek. Thousands came. Nations gathered. A tradition was born.

Now in its second year, CGON is growing. More Treaty 8 Nations are joining the organizing circle. The event is expanding. And the gathering continues to build into something truly significant for First Nations communities across the North.

Why We Gather

CGON is more than an event. It is a living expression of culture, a place where tradition is practiced and passed on, and a space where nations reconnect with one another.

We gather to celebrate who we are. We gather to share what we know. We gather to show the next generation where they come from and what is worth carrying forward.

From competitive powwow and hand games to cultural camps and the artisan marketplace, every part of CGON is designed to honor the richness of First Nations culture while welcoming guests of all backgrounds.

Dawson Creek as the Gathering Place

Dawson Creek sits at the heart of Treaty 8 territory in Northeastern BC. It is the mile zero of the Alaska Highway and the gateway to the Peace Region. For CGON, it is the natural gathering place.

The Ovintiv Events Centre gives the gathering the space it deserves. With room for thousands of attendees, multiple event areas, and proximity to hotels, campgrounds, and services, Dawson Creek is the right home for Northern BC's largest cultural event.

The Cultural Gathering of Nations takes place on Treaty 8 territory, bringing together Nations from across the region. This gathering is built in partnership with the communities, leadership, and Elders who help shape and guide the event each year.

We honour the Nations whose land, culture, and presence make CGON possible.

Our Commitment

CGON is a drug and alcohol free event. It is a family event. It is a respectful space for ceremony, competition, and connection.

We ask all guests, vendors, and participants to honor the traditions being shared. To stand during grand entry. To ask before photographing dancers. To treat regalia with the respect it is due.

This gathering belongs to everyone who comes with an open heart and a spirit of respect.
